JavaScript eval() Function

Definition and Usage

The eval() function evaluates a string and executes it as if it was script code.

Syntax

eval(string)

Parameter Description
string Required. The string to be evaluated


Example

In this example we use eval() on some strings and see what it returns:

eval("x=10;y=20;document.write(x*y)");
document.write("<br />");
document.write(eval("2+2"));
document.write("<br />");
var x=10;
document.write(eval(x+17));
document.write("<br />");
</script>

The output of the code above will be:
