All data extracts –from production databases- are first applied against an enterprise data warehouse. Once the data gets into the enterprise warehouse, it can then be distributed, as needed, to departmental warehouses, also known as Datamarts. These datamarts are organized by subjects that are of interest to a department; for example, sales data and customers for the West Coast region. There is also a growing interest in mobile datamarts. These personal warehouses that you can load in a laptop and take with you on the road. For example, real-estate brokers could carry a multiple – listing catalog in their laptops. They could then show customers comparative listings during an open house.
