It is very common for business people to routinely populate their spreadsheets with data extracted from external sources. The process consists of the following manual steps:
1) Extract data using a query,
2) Copy the results to a diskette file,
3) Copy the diskette file to the machine with the spreadsheet program, and
4) Import the file into the local database (or spreadsheet). This technique, called manual extract, is primitive, labor intensive, and error prone.
